Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef chuck
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce, divided
  • 4 slices Sargento® Limited Edition Deli Style Sliced Wisconsin Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, diagonally cut in half
  • 8 (2-1/2-inch) sourdough or brioche dinner rolls, split, toasted

Optional toppings:

  • Crisply cooked applewood smoked bacon, cut in half, caramelized
  • Raw onion
  • Sliced plum tomato
  • Arugula or watercress sprigs
  • Mayonnaise

Directions

  1. Preheat broiler. In a medium bowl, combine meat, onion and 1/4 cup barbecue sauce. Mix well; shape into 8 patties about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2-inch thick. Place patties on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  2. Broil patties 3 to 4 inches from heat source for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until no longer pink in center and internal temperature reaches 160°F. Spoon remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce over patties; top with cheese. Return to broiler for 1 minute or until cheese is melted. Serve in rolls with optional toppings as desired.
